Chisai's Web-site

Hiya! My name is Chisai, I'm also known as Soundfont in some parts of the web.

I've been online most of my life and it's nice to have a site to call my own :)
I guess the most important things in my life right now are my friends and my art, they get me through everything. I love drawing, painting, listening to music, PC and handheld gaming, chatting with my friends on discord, taking care of my tamagotchis and hyperfixating on whatever mediocre middle aged man the gods ordain me to be interested in.

[Current fixation: Jason "Jay" Kay]

FAVOURITES!!!

  • Half Life + It's sequels - My all time favourite is HL2! It was the first serious game I played (10 years ago!) and opened me up to a whole new world of immersive storytelling.
  • Pokémon - I love all of the games Gen 3 through 7, but SoulSilver was the first game I beat and will always hold the biggest place in my heart. I've beat Red on both an English and Japanese cartridge :3. Building a connection with my team is always my fav part.
  • World of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck - Maybe the first game I ever played? It was the only 2 player Mega Drive game we had so I could play with my Sib, and I have so many good memories of playing as donald. It's a cute little platformer game, not too difficult and you can finish it in an hour but the art and music are worth playing through to see at least once.
  • TES:V / Skyrim - There's a reason this game keeps getting re-released. I play with light visual mods and a few tweaks and bug fixes and I've never had a bad time exploring, building, grinding, working, and building stories around my characters! Honourable mention goes to Skyrim VR, which is crazy cool but way too expensive for all the modding it needs to be playable.
  • Fallout - I love New Vegas and Fallout 4. 4 is peak Bethesda gameplay triangle of Explore > Fight > Loot, and New Vegas has the most fleshed out realisation of a narriative I've seen in a game (as well as Veronica :P). Dishonourable mention goes to Fallout 4 VR, which is basically unplayable even with mods to fix all the broken and unchanged systems.
  • Hypnospace Outlaw - What a game! If you have a neocities and haven't played it yet, what are you doing???
  • Animal Crossing: New Leaf - Strikes the perfect balance between fun decorating and villager personality, still have my town since 2015 and I love checking in on everyone every now and then.

  • Degrassi - !!! I love Degrassi so much !!! I love every version for different reasons. Kids of Degrassi St is so cute and earnest, Junior High and High are so cheesy and are the quintessential "After School Special" vibe, early TNG is really Y2K cheesy and I love the dumb teen drama that comes up as the show progresses (late TNG gets batshit lol) though they still manage to tell some really heavy stories with dignity and respect, and New Class is still fun and has some great moments :D
  • The Disasterous Life of Saiki K - Easily the funniest anime I've seen, my Sib put me onto this one a while ago and it's become my comfort show for when I'm sick or just not vibing (Got me through covid for sure).
  • Initial D - Cool asf, never really cared much about driving but the races are awesome and the drama between everyone is really engaging :D
  • Jurassic Park + The Lost World - These are great! JP1 has the tightest screenplay and directing I've ever seen and the themes and acting are done perfectly. JP2 is a fun addition, though a bit cheesy, and it's nice to see how the events of the first movie affected Ian (Deffo my fav character in the franchise).
  • Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'hoole - Weird choice I know. Sure, the slow-mo is a bit over the top, and the dialogue and plot are pretty basic, but the fight and flying scenes are so cool and the animation so gorgeous that I can overlook it. I genuinely think this movie changed my life after watching it in theatres way back though. I started getting really into drawing animals after seeing it, as well as Owl City, and the thing that pushed me over the edge to buying my VR headset was learning I could use it to finally watch this movie in 3D again (before that I was seriously considering buying an old 3D TV).
  • Doctor Who (2005-Now) - It's an absolute masterpiece, 15 seasons of great TV and still going. My besties convinced me to check out the christmas specials with the 14th Doctor and I loved them so much we went back and watched through the whole show together. Every doctor brings something new to the table, every companion brings new conflict and helps give the doctor another dimension, and River Song's whole arc lives in my soul rent free.

  • Jamiroquai - OOOHHHHH I love their sound so much! Everything from their eco-funk acid jazz origins to their more disco tunes, and their didgeridoo instrumental tracks too, their sound is just so chill and vibey.
Favourite tracks: Do You Know Where You're Coming From?, Cosmic Girl and Didjital Vibrations.
  • a-ha - If you ever need someone to yap at you for hours, just ask me about a-ha. I love Jamiroquai but a-ha owns my soul. Their sound never gets old, their lyrics (especially Pål's contributions) are always so atmospheric and thoughtful, Morten's vocals never fail to bring the other 2 elements to an 11/10. I love a-ha so much I learned Norwegian so I could enjoy every last song, every single interview no matter what. I own the records, the books, a bunch of postcards, pins and patches from the 80s. I saw them live in concert 26.01.2020!! I don't think I'll ever get tired of their work, nor the solo albums Morten and Mags made (Sorry but not to keen on Savoy).
Favourite tracks: Soft Rains of April, October, Cannot Hide and Oh My Word.
  • House Music - I got into house music (also UK Garage and Rally House) a few years ago and I feel like it's just the perfect fit for working to or just vibing out. I love the way the tracks blend into each-other when you put on a playlist and you just get lost in a trance and time loses meaning. I'm usually pretty reserved when it comes to trying new music and I'll stick to the few artists/tracks I already know, but I never have a bad time finding new house tracks to love.
Favourite tracks: Emotion Engine by Dazegxd, On & On by Piri & Tommy, Fake ID (Coke & Rum Remix) by GEELEE and Beat Keep Rockin' by Starjunk95.
  • Milwaukee Protocol - This album is a Caretaker Fan Project, which would usually be a turnoff for me as most (*cough cough EITBON cough cough*) tend to stick too close to the source material and never get close to the quality of the original. This album feels different to me. It wears its influence on it's sleeve, sure, but the chosen samples, audio manipulation techniques, subject matter and the addition of sound effects work together I believe to create an experience that stands out on its own. The (comparitively) short length of the album both makes sense in terms of the disease but also makes the album more approachable and easy to return to again and again. The only real gripe I have is with the album covers for tracks F1, F2 and G1, though they add to the unease it's more in an "Analogue horror" way and ends up taking away from the internal horror that the album was building to.
Favourite tracks: Quiet Twilight Whispers, Twitching Eyelids, Keep it Together, Pushing through the Irritants and Disturbances.
  • Camellia - I love EDM, I've always loved EDM. Camellia is like EDM^3. The overlapping textures and walls of sound scratch some part of my brain that needs to be follwing like 5 melodies and drum tracks and sound effects all at once. And they get even better when you're moving your wrists faster than thought physically possible along to them in Beat Saber, and your eyes are being blown out by flashing lights, and you just lose yourself in the moment and somehow come out of it with an SS rank.
Favourite tracks: Hiasobi (Teto Cover), Light it Up, GHOST, Exit this Earth's Atomosphere.
  • Psychedelic Porn Crumpets - Introduced to me by one of my best friends, PPC is a premium psychedelic rock band High Visceral Parts 1 and 2 are absolutely stellar, knocking it out of the park with their first releases. Now for the whatchamacallit is fun, Shyga! The Sunlight Mound is just brilliant and full of bangers, and Night Gnomes feels like the perfect addition to their catalogue. Haven't listened to Fronzoli yet soz. Their absolute best release though was the High Visceral B Sides, just front to back perfection. If you go see them live make sure not to drink though because they will ask if anyone in the audience can drive them to their next set lol.
Favourite tracks: ...And the Addled Abstraction of Being, November, The Thinker, Keen for Kick Ons?, The Tale of Gurney Gridman.
